Alberta Ferretiwas born in 1950in the Italian town of Cattolica. She is a daughter of a dressmaker, so as a child she spent many hours around cloth and thread of all kinds.Just like the seamstresses around her she would cut and sew fabrics under the guidance of her mother.
When Alberta was 18 she decided she was ready to start her own business so she opened a store in her hometown-Cattolica on the Adriatic coast. Ferreti began selling alongside Versace, Giorgio Armani, and Krizia, Ferrettiand soon she began attracting more and more people to her newly-established brand. Her style started to become more and more popularuntil it becameacult.
Ferreti debuted her first big collection in 1981 on the Milan runway. Three years later she launched what would become Philosophy di Alberta Ferreti-a diffusion line that also became quite popular.
But working solo wasn’t enough for Ferreti so she soon decided to start a partnership with her brother-Massimo. The product of their partnership was called Aeffe and nowadays successfully distributes designs for houses such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Moschino, Pollini and Basso & Brooke. It seems fashion goes in the blood of the Ferreti family.
In 1998 Ferreti was nominated for an award for her contribution to the economic and social state of her country by the president himself (at that time this was Oscar Luigi Scalfaro). The name of the award was CavalieredelLavoro and is considered a great honor in her country.
More than 30 years the Alberta Ferreti dresses have been known to be worn by celebrities such as Scarlett Johansson and Salma Hayek. The dresses of the skilled designer stand out with expert draping and extremely fine and feminine jeweling, gauzy layers of fabric and sometimes accordion pleats.
