Fashion Designer: Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs is from New York City and was born on the 9th of April 1963. After graduating a design school in 1982 he entered another one that also specializes in design. It was Parsons School of design. During the time spent in Parsons he designed his first collection hand-knit items, sweaters that sold pretty well with the help of a woman called Barbara Weiser. But this was not the only achievement for Marc in Parsons, later he received many more. For example: The PerryEllis Gold Thimble, The Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble and Design Student of the Year. All prestigious, all wined with hard work and devotion.

In 1984 when Jacobs showed his senior collection, he was spotted by Robert Duffy, who was and executive in Ruben Thomas. This was the beginning of Marc’s career as a designer and a partnership called Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc. Love for fashion and quality designs were the main things that drove the newly-bonded designers and brought them popularity.
In 1986 Marc Jacobs finally managed to introduce to the world his 1st independent collection as a designer. This was quickly followed by an award that was given to such a young designer for the first time in history of fashion; it was the Council of Fashion Designers of America [CFDA] Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent.

In 1989 Marc and Duffy (his partner) signed with Perry Ellis and thus formed an event stronger bond. For his work there he was once again awarded by the CFDA (with the Women’s wear Designer of the Year) in 1992.

In 1993 Jacobs and Duffy Inc launched a company named: Marc Jacobs International Company, LP. It quickly drew attention and contracts and licensing agreements followed shortly after.
In 2001 came the Marc by Marc Jacobs line with a spring runway show. This new branching out brought him 7 more CFDA awards. Marc Jacobs’s line now has more than 100 stores around the world.
Apart from his own line he has been known for his work in the Louis Vuitton fashion house for some time. He started there in 1998 and created the first ready-to-wear line it had to offer. The Vuitton graffiti bags are also one of his creations.
