Rochas was a French designer, born in 1902, that founded the Rochas fashion house. Marcel Rochas was his full name; he died relatively young, at the age of 53. Rochas was the first designer to introduce 2/3 length coats and skirts that have pockets. Currently the Rochas fashion house is owned by the multinational company Procter & Gamble.
One of the most popular Rochas products is his perfume “Femme”, delivered in a pink box with black lace.
Until the appointment of a new creative director, Olivier Theyskens, the Rochas fashion house wasn’t at its best. Within a short period of time Theyskens developed some brand new ideas and designs and made the new collections more elegant and French than ever. Soon, praise was received, giving the new designer behind the now famous fashion house even more fuel to work with.
Some of the most famous names that have dressed in Rochas designs include: Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Jennifer Lopez, Rachel Weisz and many more celebrities.
In 2006 the owner of Rochas, Procter & Gamble, announced that they were closing the fashion house, which was a big shock to both designers and clients. On the 3rd of November 2008, Marco Zanini was chosen for the position of artistic director in the newly reopened Rochas fashion house. Born in 1971, Zanini was a valuable addition; he had graduated the Fine Arts Academy in Milan and had also worked for some famous fashion houses like D&G and Versace. After this he spent some time in Halston, relaunching the also old brand and amazing the fashion world with talent and management of quite a high level. Unpredictability is what rules in the Rochas fashion house since the arrival of Marco Zanini and it seems like it’s just what it needed to come back to its former glory.
